Race Report: Marlborough Lions Club Round The Lake 5

The Round the Lake 5k uses the same course as another race by the Marlborough Lions Club, which is held in autumn. Both races start and end in Blish Park.

Date: 24 May, 2026

Town: Marlborough, CT, USA

Distance: 5k (the course was a little long)

Conditions: In 2026, it was pouring down rain, making for a very soggy race with some slick spots. It was 52°F (11°C) at the start of the race with no meaningful wind.

Parking: There was plenty of parking in a gravel lot with a grass overflow area. There were marshals directing the flow of parking.

Check In: Bib pickup took place in the pavilion. There was no line when I checked in a mere 20 minutes before the start of the race. About 120 runners were signed up and there were 97 finishers.

Course Description: The course starts on the road in front of the entrance to Blish Park and proceeds up the hill and over a bridge. From there, there is a downhill section through a neighborhood and another hill heading into the downtown area of Marlborough. The second mile brought runners through town and headed back toward Blish Park, with views of Lake Terramuggus. The views of the lake and patches of beach continued through long rolling hills into the third mile.

There was one last hill before reaching the entrance to Blish Park and a brief dirt trail section to the finish line.

Afterparty: There were limited refreshments after the race. I spied bottles of water, cut up oranges, and banans.
