Race Report: My Mother Made Me Do It

In this race report, I'll be reviewing the My Mother Made Me Do It race, which is held annually in Prospect, CT as close as possible to Mother's Day. There are a number of similarly-named races held all over Connecticut (Santa Made Me Do It, etc).

Date: 9 May, 2026

Town: Prospect, CT, USA

Distance: 1mi

Conditions: At the start of the 2026 race, it was drizzling and 46F.

Parking: There was sufficient parking in a gravel lot at the park hosting the run. It was easy to get out with no need for marshalling.

Check In: Bib pickup took place by the start line in a tent. There was a short wait when I arrived, 35 minutes before the start time.

Course Description: This trail race consisted of two loops of a gravel course around an athletic field complex. There were cones directing runners, preventing them from entering smaller side-paths between athletic fields.

Afterparty: There were some salty and savoury snacks, as well as bottles of water, in terms of refreshments. There was a brief awards ceremony. Notably, Hotchkiss Park in Prospect has a very nice playground that appeared to be wheelchair-friendly. That looked like a great post-race stop for families.
