Today, I will be recapping the Beach to Beach 5k, a relatively new race that was introduced in 2023.
Course Map
Town: Morris, CT, USA
Distance: 5km
Conditions: It was a very sunny morning with a light breeze. It was 68F when the race started, and very dewy. The sun was surprisingly strong for late September.
Parking: There was plentiful parking in the gravel lot and surrounding grass. There were beautiful views of the petite town beach on Bantam Lake right from the parking lot
Check In: The check-in area was conveniently situated in a park pavilion, with plenty of volunteers to check runners in quickly. There were indoor restrooms inside the pavilion.
Course Description: The course was an out-and-back road race along the east side of Bantam Lake. The way out was mostly uphill, with the return trip naturally being more downhill overall.
The first mile started out downhill from the parking area, with a steep uphill immediately following. There were more rolling hills until one larger climb just before the turnaround point at 1.55mi. There was a water stop provided at the turnaround. The turn also occurred on a downhill, necessitating an immediate climb back up. From there, we reversed course and proceeded along the rolling hills back to the starting point. Roads were open to traffic, but the area did not have a lot of passing cars. The course was largely unmarked, which was fine as there were no turns. There were mile marker signs.
Afterparty: The race finished under an inflatable arch back by the pavilion at Morris Town Beach. There were bananas, granola bars, and water offered as refreshments. The t-shirts were extremely cute, made of a high-quality tech material in a nice heathered blue.
