Race Report: Abilis 5k

Today, I will be recapping the annual walk and run for Abilis. The 2025 event was the 20th annual occurrence of the walk and run.

Course Map

Date: 12 October, 2025

Town: Greenwich, CT, USA

Distance: 5km

Conditions: It was an overcast, windy morning out on Greenwich Point. The wind was gusting quite strongly at the end of the race and while I was walking back to my car. It was 57F when the race began.

Parking: There was plenty of parking at the town park, but there was about a half mile walk to the check-in area so plan appropriately

Check In: This process was very smooth and organized. There was no wait to receive my bib. Same-day registration was permitted. I opted to pick up my t-shirt and string backpack at the end of the race to avoid carrying them.

Course Description: This was a gorgeous, pretty flat course that took runners on 3 loops around Greenwich Point. The first loop started out paved then moved to a crushed-shell path, and it offered views of the Old Greenwich Yacht Club and the New York City skyline. There was a water stop around the halfway point of the race.

The second loop started out paved and moved onto gravel, taking runners downhill onto a little path through a marshy area. The final loop took runners over the marshy area on cute wooden bridges, and we were treated to beach views. There was a final water station around the 3 mile mark, and the final climb of the race was on grass.

Afterparty: There were many fantastic refreshments after this race. There was hot coffee, pastries and scones from a local bakery, delicious NYC-style bagels and cream cheese, and numerous packaged snacks for the road. I took an apple cider donut for the road in my new string backpack.
