Race Report: Pumpkin Run 5k

Today, I will be recapping the Pumpkin Run 5k in Harwinton. This is a relatively new race that has been held annually since 2023

Course Map

Date: 11 October, 2025

Town: Harwinton, CT, USA

Distance: 5km (course was a little short, my watch measured 3.03mi)

Conditions: It was a very sunny morning with minimal wind. It was much cooler than the last few weekends. It was 58F when the race started.

Parking: There was plenty of parking at the town recreation center where the race began.

Check In: This process was very smooth and organized. There was no wait to receive my bib, which came with safety pins attached, and my race t-shirt. Same-day registration was permitted.

Course Description: The first half mile was downhill, which was a harbinger of things to come. After reaching the end of the road leading out of the recreation center, runners encountered an enthusiastic group of volunteers and were instructed to turn right. This is where the rolling hills began. In the second mile, we reached the end of that road and were instructed to turn around. There was also a water stop at this point.

This was not an out-and-back course; we continued past our original turn (and the volunteers) and we proceeded up and down a few rolling hills. Finally, after climbing one last hill just into the third mile, we hit the second water stop and were told to turn around again. When we reached the volunteer group, we continued back up the hill to the recreation center to the finish line.

Afterparty: There were many more refreshments after this race than I was expecting. There was plentiful hot coffee, pumpkin donut holes, and an assortment of pastries, muffins, cookies, brownies, and sweet breads. Runners were encouraged to take treats home, and we each received a free sugar pumpkin, as well.
