Race Report: Outrun Addiction 5k

Today, I'll be recapping the annual Outrun Addiction 5k. This was my first time running this road race, which also has a 2 mile walk option. This event brought out many community participants; I saw groups that had custom clothing with tributes to loved ones lost to addiction. There was also a large photo display by the Parks and Recreation building where the start/finish line was located honoring those who have been lost to the terrible disease of addiction.

Date: September 19, 2026

Town: Enfield, CT, USA

Distance: 5k (the course was a tiny bit long)

Conditions: It was a brisk, sunny day for the 2026 event. It was 57°F (14°C) when the race started at 9am. There was a light breeze, as well.

Parking: There were several parking lots at the town's Parks & Rec department where the race start/finish was located. It filled up and people were parking on the grass with no direction.

Check In: Same-day race registration was available. The lines to pick up bibs were surprisingly long - I checked the race results and there were over 800 participant, so the sheer size of the race made distribution difficult.

Course Description: We started 6 minutes late, presumably due to the lingering line at registration.

The course was mostly flat, with the only small hill right at the turnaround point, which was a little loop around a neighborhood. There were volunteers to direct runners at the one turn and also at the turnaround. There was one water stop just before the 1 mile mark, and there was a group of cheerleaders (complete with red pom poms!) to encourage the runners.

Afterparty: There was a speaker playing a variety of classic rock and pop hits at the starting line. Local non-profits and other organizations dedicated to providing addition service had booths at the event. There were Dunkin Donuts treats and coffee by the registration table.
